Been working on some ads this weekend over at my brothers. We managed to invent a brilliant game on youtube.
Simply press pause at various stages in the video for Cry by Godley & Creme and see how funny a face you can come up with!!
linky > I wasn’t pinching ad ideas from youtube, honest. Or type Godley & Creme in youtube.

Thanks guys.

Lots going on to do with Tibet and China and the 2008 Olympics currently. I’d previously knocked up a Burmese Monk stencil when the monks were being killed during peaceful protests. I’m not hugely political, but sometimes these things really grab my attention.
I’ve been looking into the whole Tibet malarkey this week. And it’s a pile of guff! I may boycott the 2008 Olympics. I doubt the British Team will miss me much, but China are a fucking disgrace and don’t deserve to be holding such an iconic event as this.
Over on Its All About The Crit they talked about how they sometimes get a real good thought, but then see it in print etc a week or so later. I was jotting down some ideas about this whole Tibet thing, for the Free Tibet campaign, and one I thought of was simply the Olympic Rings as handcuffs. Anyway the protesters beat me to it. Some guys tried to disrupt the Olympic Torch ceremony in Greece today and they had a flag with Olympic Rings/handcuffs. Good on ‘em.
Still, it’s a damn good cause and I’m gonna think up some ideas for it.
With all the info I’ve been reading on Tibet, I’ve seen some pretty disgusting facts. One that stands out, which I’ve got an idea for, is that Google actually pandered to the Chinese government demand and set up Google.cn for them which actually filtered out any search results to do with Tibet or the Free Tibet campaign. Tossers.
Anyway, hope to get some ideas up for this and other stuff soon.

Lots of people like the D&AD pencil/eraser in my portfolio. Made up this one aswell, to go alongside it. I quite like it. Anyone else?

I was due at Pravda today for a 2nd review, I wanted to show the Mitre work they had set me. Unfortunately, the fella I was due to meet was in a meeting and I was unable to sit down with him. Things happen though. So, instead I left him a copy of my portfolio.
I wasn’t going to post these up yet, but might as well, just to show what I’m doing. I wanted to do something a bit different and be able to present my folio at the same time. So Pravda received something like this today:

(It was a Dandy Annual for Pravda…this little beauty will be going to someone else)
Not as fancy as Love’s book they gave to me! But a novel way to hand them my portfolio on CD I think. I also doctored them a bit to include new versions of the story’s. So the Dandy Annual 1991 that Pravda have, is a little more ‘blue’ than when it was printed.
Who next then? Hmm, well JWT are proving hard to get in touch with. I’ve finally got through to TBWA and hope to see them next week. They may be a lucky recipient. And, I’ll have one for Love when I go back to see them. Bet you can’t wait!

And (finally?) another bit to the Mitre campaign, I’ve done a piece of long-ish copy. I’m off to see Pravda again on Friday, they set the brief, so will see what they think of the ads.

Which of these two do you prefer? Same copy, just different font etc. Maybe my handful of readers can decide which I show on Friday…

I know the images aren’t spot on … but they get the idea across. Again, comments appreciated. Another two on portfolio page.

I hadn’t posted for a good few days, I’ve been over in Leeds working on my portfolio with my brother who kindly lends me his Mac skills to work up ideas with me.
Anyway, I’ve been working on a cool idea for getting my book noticed around agencies – I won’t reveal it yet, as it’s not fully finished. But while doing so, I found this:

It was in a book I bought from a charity shop. It was packed full of ‘facts’ like this. Some were just about believable, but then you slowly realise they must all be fiction. . . Maybe some people would realise quicker than I did!
